At DOVES, intervention is provided through services based on empowering victims. Our staff is trained to provide support and information in a way that allows victims to take control of their lives. Our commitment to victims of domestic violence and their children is not limited to those families staying in shelter, we have a variety of outreach services available to those individuals who need assistance but not necessarily shelter.

  Resident Services 

 While in shelter we provide our residents with several needs and services during their stay at DOVES. Residents are provided with basic needs such as safe, temporary shelter in a warm homelike environment, a children’s playground and playroom, food, clothing, personal care items, infant and toddler supplies. We also provide services and assistance to these residents including the following: individualized case management, individual and group counseling, education on basic living skills, self esteem, dynamics of domestic violence, safety planning. Parenting skills, healthy relationships, and job readiness. We provide children’s program activities, referrals to other service providers such as in-depth counseling services, medical services, educational and employment opportunities, as well as assistance with obtaining housing and court advocacy.  

 

Prevention

DOVES of Gateway provides public education and awareness through presentations for civic clubs, churches and schools on topics such as family violence, dating violence, personal safety, healthy relationships, and program services. We also attend special events such as community health fairs, community festivals, conferences, media contacts, television, radio and print. As part of our prevention strategies we also train professionals including medical personnel, law enforcement, volunteers, board of directors, teachers and social workers. 

  Crisis Intervention

DOVES provides a 24-hour professionally staffed hot-line, hospital advocacy, court advocacy, counseling, support groups, information and referrals.
